Use of Metaphor on Cancer.......

"I'm going to kill you. Every day, I'm going to kill you, and then I'm going to bring you back to life. We're going to hit you with chemo, and hit you again, and hit you again. You're not going to be able to walk. We're practically going to have to teach you to walk again after we're done"(Anonymous Oncologist).

If I was the patient that had cancer and my doctor would tell

me this I would be terrified because the doctor is telling the

patient in an aggressive tone. However, the doctor is telling

you the truth about chemo that it is killing you little by little.

At same time you would be fighting against the cancer.

This quote reminds me when my aunt had been diagnosed

with back bone breast cancer and being three months

pregnant. Her doctor had told her you have the early stage of

breast cancer so, we going to fight this and you will survival.

I promise you that I will not give up on you and you will not

give up either. Since, you are three months pregnant it’s

going to be dangerous because you would be in chemo. Your

baby might make but it might Down syndrome from the

medicine you would be taking. However, that would also be a

struggle for you to fight this cancer.  Look your young and

you will be able to have more children once we defeat this

cancer first. So, my aunt had to make the hardest decision in

her life and lose the baby but she had done it so she can fight

the cancer. Overall, with the strong relationship she had with

her doctor, she survived the cancer and a year lateral she had

a baby girl. My aunt’s doctor wasn’t as aggressive as the one

from the quote. He was like gentler but at the time

determined and motivated that his goal was to not let my

aunt die. Different doctors have different strategies of how to

inform their patient about their cancer and how they would

approach. Depending on the patient of which way they will

prefer to fight against their cancer.
